Indoor Pet Containment Systems

You Really Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

There’s no doubt you’ve heard that saying before and it’s applicable in so many ways – including to yourself. In Manitoba, as winter hits we spend so much time indoors and that includes your four legged friends. Being stuck within 4 walls can cause everyone to go a little stir-crazy. This can present behaviours in your furry family members that are not good for anyone and can actually be dangerous especially as we near the holiday season.

Christmas trees are adorned with beautiful and tempting glittery items, sometimes they’re wrapped in what would look like a big pull toy. Now you fill the space underneath with paper wrapped packages – PAPER! Could you add anymore temptation???

Hidden Fence

Welcome Molly to the Fence Fur-eedom Club!

Please welcome Molly from the RM of Springfield!

What a joy to train and the family is so thrilled to have her safe in the yard! Molly loves to play and the DogWatch system is keeping her safe from the horse pen and the busy road along the east side of the property! Molly has been a DogWatch customer for a couple of years and it was great to re-connect with her owners.

Recently they had some landscaping work done and the workers cut the containment wire! ☹ Well, with a quick phone and some easy directions, the system was up and running once again! Always great to hear hear how great things are going with our customers!!! Watch how happy Molly is!

Another great adventure of DogWatch of Mid Canada!

Invisible Fence

Welcome Reggie to the DogWatch of Mid Canada family and the Fence Fur-eedom Club!

Please welcome Reggie from Stonewall to the DogWatch of Mid Canada family and the Fence Fur-eedom club!

Reggie might only be 14 weeks old but he sure picked up the training in a snap! Look at the video and see how Reggie does not want to go near the flags which is exactly what we are training him! With all our new customers, we really focus on positive reinforcement! Reggie is a great example of a young pup who really picks up on understanding the DogWatch pet containment system!

What an amazing pup who is full of energy and loves to visit other dogs walking in the neighborhood. With a busy road behind his property, this was really concerning for Reggie’s family. Now with the DogWatch ProFence pet containment system, Reggie can roam freely – and most importantly safely!

Welcome Reggie – you are a GEM!

Thanksgiving Tips for Pet Safety

Keep Your Pets Safe While Celebrating Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate with friends and family. After the last two years, it’s important to pause and enjoy this special holiday. While it brings people together, it can carry some risks for pets. Here are some tips to keep your furry friend safe during this holiday.

Food Risks

How many times have you hit the couch after dinner to complain about how full you are, or fell asleep in your chair in a “turkey coma”? As much as we all love the amazing Thanksgiving meals, so do our pets and unfortunately that can be dangerous to our pets. Fatty, hard to digest or poisonous foods can result in an emergency vet visit.

Happy Dog

A Day in the Life of a Dogwatch Dog

Hi! My name is Merf, you may have seen my introduction to the Dogwatch Fence Fur-eedom Club a while back. I know a bunch of my canine pals are curious about what it’s like to be part of the club. Well, let me tell you! I mean really, that smile just just say it all!

My fur-parents decided to get the fence put in as soon as the snow melted, when I was just a wee pup. Okay, I know, size-wise I’m still a wee pup. Back then I could hear them using all these weird words like FM frequency, range and they seemed really worried about whether they could even find something that fit my little frame. I mean back then I was only 7 lbs, but now I’m a whopping 13 lbs. Yep, I’m a big boy now.

So these guys showed up with this trailer and this weird noisy thing that did something to the ground. I know my Dad said it was pretty cool and my Mom was super psyched that she didn’t have to dig up an acre. I don’t know, I think she was missing out, you know how much fun that could be? Then this tall guy came, put a collar on me and starting trying to get me to go towards these white flags and I was like “Nope! Not happening!”. They used this word to describe me, it sounded like SMRT. So anyway, they left and my life truly began! Read full post

The Saga of Cooper the Beagle Continues

A while ago we talked about Cooper the Beagle and his owners. The story was not only about the hidden fence but how sometimes the owners need training as well. Here is the latest update from Cooper’s furparents:

We acquired our beautiful Beagle puppy in February and within four months we were exhausted by his high energy and inquisitive nature. With no fencing on our large scenic river property he was on leash all the time. He awoke at 4:30 every morning and his first leash walk of the day was at 7:00 am followed by several more through the day and no options for running/cardio exercise. He was frustrated and so was I as I too was on leash for four months. I would load him into the vehicle and take him leash walking to the point it was a full time job.

Our yard while extra large was impossible to accommodate a physical fence. Property along the sides of the house is narrow, a large front yard is treed and on a busy highway, there is a steep bank at the back down to the Red River. How could we possibly preserve the beauty of our landscape at the same time as fencing an area to keep our little Beagle Cooper safe from risks and harm.

When we were introduced to Dogwatch Hidden Fences we were mesmerized. The smart fence technology would be a solution to all of our challenges. We ordered within an hour of meeting Reid Kenyon and our lives have become changed. It is a solution like no other.

Cooper trained quickly on the flags and knows every square inch of his yard. The Hidden Fence encompasses the entire house and he is free and off to hunt June bugs, run his Indy 500 racetrack style, noodle around looking for dandelions, follow us around when we are gardening or chill when we have a beverage on the deck. He is so happy, his little beagle face smiles when he runs and he shows off his moves. And he has starting sleeping to 5:45 instead of howling at 4:30 am to get up.

There is not a single day that goes by that we don’t express our gratitude for this Hidden Fence!

Keep Your Dog from Becoming a Hot Dog!

Ah, Manitoba summers. From blustering winds to epic rainstorms to the dog days of summer. It’s planned to be a stunning weekend with temps rising over 30 degrees, so it’s time to get out and enjoy! And now that you’ve installed your new hidden fence, you can bring your favorite four legged friend to hang out with you without constantly worrying where they are and if they’re safe. But we have to remember that dogs don’t always understand the signs of overheating and it’s up to us to keep an eye on them. So as we continue on this heatwave, here are some suggestions for keeping your pupper cool as a cucumber.

  1. Provide Shade and Water
While you throw back that sport drink to quest your thirst and cool your jets, remember to offer your pup water as well. If you’re one to bask in the rays, try to find a spot that has shade nearby as your best friend will want to remain close.
  2. Recognize the Signs of Heatstroke
This is a condition which may require immediate treatment by your vet. Watch for symptoms such as exaggerated panting, rapid heartbeat, high fever, vomiting, staring strangely and warm dry skin. If you notice these signs, immediately bring your pet into a cool space and contact your vet or emergency animal clinic. This is particularly important for short snout breeds such as Bulldogs, Bostons, Pugs and Boxers.
  3. Never Leave Your Pet In a Car Unattended – Even if the Air is On
We’ve all seen the rescue stories about pets being saved, but those are only the stories we hear. The most dangerous thing you can do is assume an open window will keep them cool as internal temperatures can soar to dangerous levels within 10 minutes.
  4. Play a Game of Ice Cube Fetch
If your pup loves to fetch, swap out the ball with an ice cube!
  5. Protect Those Tootsies
There’s more to your pup’s paws than the delicious smell of nachos :). This is their built-in cooling mechanism. Think about getting a wading pool to keep their paws cool and if you have to take them on the pavement, try not to. They quickly burn their paws. If you can’t walk it – they definitely can’t.

The most important thing is to keep an eye on your pet and watch for signs of dangerous heat levels. While we love to watch them roam freely within their containment fence, it’s up to us to manage their health and well being.

Now go and enjoy the summer!
