You Really Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

Indoor Pet Containment Systems

There’s no doubt you’ve heard that saying before and it’s applicable in so many ways – including to yourself. In Manitoba, as winter hits we spend so much time indoors and that includes your four legged friends. Being stuck within 4 walls can cause everyone to go a little stir-crazy. This can present behaviours in your furry family members that are not good for anyone and can actually be dangerous especially as we near the holiday season.

Christmas trees are adorned with beautiful and tempting glittery items, sometimes they’re wrapped in what would look like a big pull toy. Now you fill the space underneath with paper wrapped packages – PAPER! Could you add anymore temptation???

What Can You Do?

This is where the customized containment solutions from Dogwatch of Mid-Canada can help. Our indoor fences can be customized to keep your pet inside the areas you want them, and away from areas you don’t, such as furniture, dining rooms, kitchen counters, trash cans or any other “off limits” areas.

When you read that, you’re going to assume that would only apply to your new pet but you can learn as quick as they can – it can work for all dogs regardless of stage of life. It doesn’t take long for dogs to learn the areas you don’t want them to access

How Does it Work?

Indoor Boundary systems emit a radio signal that is detected by the receiver collar worn by your pet—the same way the outdoor Hidden Fence systems work. As your pet approaches the signal field (initially marked with a series of flags to help your pet identify the area), the receiver collar begins to emit an audible (or vibration) warning beep. If your pet goes beyond the warning zone, the warning is quickly followed by a mild ‘correction’—an unpleasant, but safe, sensation from the receiver collar. With proper training, your pet will quickly learn to stay away from areas that he associates with the warning.
